Dr. Johnny Leung OD, Chief Optometrist, Clinical Preceptor for the Chicago College of Optometry

Born and raised in Rochester Hills, Dr. Leung received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry, graduating at the top of his class and earning numerous awards including Optometry Student of the Year.

Prior to receiving his Doctorate, Dr. Leung earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Medical Technology at Michigan State University. He went on to serve an internship at the prestigious William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. There he received Medical Technologist Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. This provides him with an extensive background in systemic conditions and associated laboratory testing that adds an additional level of care for his patients. Since many heath conditions and medications can affect the eyes, Dr. Leung is able to work with his patients’ primary care doctors to help manage overall health more efficiently and effectively. Dr. Leung is currently Adjunct Clinical Professor to the Chicago College of Optometry and will have doctorate students rotating through the clinic at times.

While proudly working in his hometown, Dr. Leung has also completed medical and vision missions to Dominica, Ecuador,  and the Galapagos Islands.  On his last mission to Dominica with VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity), over 2000 eye examinations were performed and thousands of pairs of gently used eyeglasses were donated to those in need. Closer to home, Dr. Leung volunteers his services to children in need of eyecare at an annual event known as the Back to School Bonanza (KidzKare, Inc). In his free time, Dr. Leung enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and traveling.
