Dr. Johnny Leung OD
Dr. Leung received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry, graduating at the top of his class and earning numerous awards including Optometry Student of the Year. He specializes in diagnosis and management of ocular and visual conditions for all ages. Dr. Leung is currently Adjunct Clinical Professor to the Chicago College of Optometry and will have doctorate students rotating through the clinic most of the year. Dr. Leung has also completed medical and vision missions to Dominica, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands. In his free time, Dr. Leung enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and traveling.
Dr. Jennifer Place OD
Dr. Jennifer Place received her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2001, graduating with honors. She has extensive experience in treating pediatric and adult patients with binocular vision disorders and vision related learning problems with prism glasses. She also has experience in fitting specialty contact lenses and managing various types of ocular disease. She enjoys working with patients with unique visual needs, and she takes great pride in providing all patients with highly customized care. Dr. Place has volunteered with Opening Eyes, a program that provides eye exams to athletes of the Michigan Special Olympics, and she participated in an international mission to St. Lucia to provide eye care to those in need. She is also a provider at Vision to Learn, a non-profit organization, providing free eye exams and glasses to children in need utilizing a mobile clinic throughout metro Detroit. In her free time, Dr. Place enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors hiking, biking and walking her dogs with her husband and two kids.
Dr. Leanna Pender OD
Dr. Leanna Pender is a Lapeer native, who graduated from Lapeer East High School in 2008. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at Saginaw Valley State University. In 2016, Dr. Pender graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry (MCO) at Ferris State University with distinction. During her optometric education, she completed her first internship at MCO with a focus on pediatric eye care and speciality contact lens fittings. Dr. Pender also rotated at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Detroit, Michigan with an emphasis on Ocular Disease. She completed a rotation at Balian Eye Center, a large private practice, in Rochester Hills, Michigan for comprehensive primary care and cataract surgery co-management. She also spent time training with Low Vision Specialist, Dr. Becker, for care and device training for patients of low vision. Dr. Pender is especially passionate about low vision and received a scholarship to pursue primary care low vision in practice in her final year of schooling. She is an active member of the Michigan Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. Dr. Pender married her high school sweetheart in 2013 and they had their first child, Anneliese, in 2015. They enjoy spending time with family and quality time at their home in North Branch playing with their black lab, Cooper.
Erin D., Office Manager and Optician
Erin was born in Rochester Hills and moved back to the area after receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Western Michigan University. While studying at WMU, Erin was involved with the Western Student Association and was a National Residence Hall Honorary. She has also completed a highly competitive internship with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
Erin’s journey in the optical field began in 2003 when she started working for a large Michigan based optical retailer. She managed a store for years and was soon promoted to Director of Customer Relations for 35 locations nationwide. After many years, Erin decided she wanted to try something different. She connected with Dr. Johnny and now manages the Accent Eyecare Team. Erin is certified by the American Board of Opticianry and attends required continuing education classes. She is adept at performing all clinical and optical testing in the office.
Her favorite part of the optical experience is frame styling. She is passionate about finding the perfect frame for the clients of Accent Eyecare. She curates the frame collection with the utmost care to provide patients with a diverse variety of options to fit their personality and lifestyle needs. She enjoys spending time with clients to carefully choose the right lens design and take accurate measurements. One of her great joys is helping first time eyeglass wearers, especially children.
In her free time, Erin enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is obsessed with documentaries and likes to travel and explore new places. She frequently tries new hobbies for short periods of time hoping to find one that sticks!
